Read: Philippians 2:1–11
Devotion:
In Philippians 2, Paul challenges believers to adopt the mindset of Christ. Instead of living with selfish ambition or trying to elevate ourselves above others, we are called to walk in humility and genuinely value the people around us.
That kind of humility does not come naturally. Our instinct is often to think about our own position, our own needs, or our own recognition. But Paul points us to Jesus as the example we are meant to follow. Jesus had every reason to claim honor and authority, yet He chose the path of humility. He stepped into our world as a servant and ultimately gave His life on the cross. What makes that even more powerful is who He did it for.
Jesus saw people as valuable. He saw broken, sinful, undeserving people and considered them worth loving, worth pursuing, and worth dying for. His humility was not just about lowering Himself. It was about lifting others up.
Paul calls believers to reflect that same heart. When we adopt the mindset of Christ, we begin to see people differently. Instead of viewing others through the lens of competition, frustration, of inconvenience, we begin to see them as people deeply loved by God. That changes the way we treat them, the way we speak to them, and the way we serve them. Lent invites us to slow down and examine our hearts. Are we living with the mindset of Christ?
Are we valuing the people around us the way Jesus values us?
The humility of Christ reminds us that every person we encounter carries value in the eyes of God. And as followers of Jesus, we are called to reflect that same love, care, and respect in the way we live.
Reflect:
1. Who in your life might be difficult for you to value or treat with humility right now?
2. How can you reflect the mindset of Christ by showing love, respect, and care to someone around you this week?
Pray:
Father, thank You for the humility of Jesus and the love He showed by giving His life for us. Help me to see people the way You see them. Shape my heart so that I value others with the same love and care that Christ showed. Teach me to walk in humility and to reflect the mindset of Jesus in the way I treat those around me. Amen.
