Philippians 4:6-7   Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

DEVOTION

Worry is a thief. It will rob you of sleep; it will invade your thoughts constantly; it will even steal your joy! The worst thing worry can do, is take your mind off of God. WE want to solve the problem. WE know what needs to be done for our own situation. WE are such selfish people. Today’s Advent scripture reminds us that God WANTS us to bring Him everything. In doing that, we are promised the peace of God! We are given the same promise of peace that was given to Mary and Joseph at their encounters with God’s messengers. That same promise of peace on Earth that was given to the shepherds when the angels proclaimed His birth. That same promise of peace that the Holy Spirit will give you at that particular moment when you most need it. All of this, by simply coming before the Lord in prayer and petition and humbly laying our requests at His feet.

REFLECT

During this Advent season, we are invited not simply to worry less, but also to surrender more to the One that provides the peace we are longing for.

PRAY

Lord God, I surrender __________ to you that has been plaguing me with worry. I am asking for your peace to comfort and protect me as I wait for your promises to unfold.
